Sonia Mary Walker, nee Macera, age 88 of Placerville, CA, passed away January 6, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19.

Sonia is survived by her sons, Mark R. Walker, D.O., of New Mexico and Craig A. Walker of Cameron Park, CA. Loving grandmother to Marissa, Amy, Robert, Brian, Matthew, Jamie, Sarah, Christopher, Simone, Lucinda and Jenny, family was very important to her. Sonia was preceded in death by her sons, Michael K. Walker of Aurora, MO and David G. Walker of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, brother’s Lincoln and Norman Macera of Philadelphia, PA and sister Velia Jaskulski of Wilmington, DE. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA by her parents, Emidio Macera and Felicia (Elizabeth) Macera, nee Pellico. She graduated from John Bartam High School and attended Pierce Business College before marrying Keith L. Walker (deceased) of the United States Navy and United States Air Force. She was a consummate military wife, raising her children while traveling throughout the world in support of her husband who served multiple tours of duty in Vietnam.

Sonia returned to school in her 40’s, attending American River Junior College and then California State University Sacramento, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Counseling. Sonia then worked for several years as a counselor, helping children at Options Group Home and elsewhere before retiring to assist in the raising and care of her granddaughter.

Sonia was an avid bridge player and an excellent cook. She loved opera, classical music and later in life, became a champion bingo player and enjoyed bowling. She started brain training with NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback Systems in her mid-80’s and enjoyed sharing her journey with the community via the web as #AskSonia about brain training with numerous video testimonials. She also became an actress late in life, appearing in a web series, created by her Nephew, Norman Macera of Philadelphia, PA. She spent her final years at The Pines at Placerville where she loved and was loved by all staff.

Funeral services will be private due to COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association, to the Boys and Girls Club of America - COVID-19 relief fund, animal rescue centers, Alzheimer’s Research or to the charity of your choice in her honor.
